My brother recently returned from a mission trip to Indonesia, and he was telling me all these stories about miracles that had happened while he was over there-blind people who could see and lame people who could walk after receiving prayer-an Islamic schoolmaster who claimed to a Christian that a building was protected from fire by a sacred sword, only to have that building burst into flames on the very next day, and so on.

I am ashamed to admit that when he was telling me these stories, my initial response was skepticism. While I believe that the miracles recorded in the Bible actually happened, I’m a product of a Western modernist culture that generally looks for scientific explanations to supposedly miraculous encounters that happen nowadays. But looking back now at my reaction, I feel like limiting the miracles to the past just limits God.

Lord, I believe. Forgive my unbelief.
